“Cyprus offers high quality education in a safe and friendly environment, where international students can feel home away from home”, was the main message that the Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Costas Kadis, conveyed at a meeting, in St. Petersburg, with university representatives and stakeholders in the field of education. The meeting took place on Monday, 24 October, in the framework of the Minister’s official visit to Russia, in order to enhance the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in Higher Education field.
“In order to develop a healthy Higher Education system that international students can trust, the Government places particular emphasis on the quality of tertiary education”, the Minister underlined in his presentation, explaining that this is ensured, on the one hand, by the effective internal and external assurance standards and procedures applied by all Cypriot Higher Education institutions and, on the other hand, by the establishment of the Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Higher Education. In addition, Mr Kadis drew attention to the fact that all accredited Universities in Cyprus, public and private ones, are operating under the laws and regulations of the Republic of Cyprus, and protecting above all the quality of education and excellence in teaching.
Mr Kadis reiterated that Cyprus is an ideal destination for international students, providing high quality education, a friendly and safe environment, high caliber academics, excellent facilities and affordable cost. According to the Minister, Cyprus constitutes an attractive destination for students, and this is supported by features such as the culturally diverse society, the pleasant Mediterranean climate and the rich historical heritage.
During his visit to Russia, the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation signed an Agreement on Mutual recognition of Education, Qualifications and Academic Degrees, with the aim to enhance the cooperation between the Universities of the two countries and to create opportunities for academic and student mobility. At the same time, the Agreement contributes to the attainment of the strategic goal set by the Government, namely, to make Cyprus an international hub for research and education.
